Planning for a multi-campus merger: Implications for library services and resources at penn state university's capital college

Institutional mergers in higher education allow colleges and universities to expand programs and services while potentially cutting costs through resource sharing. Library mergers or affiliations can bring opportunities for innovation, but can also pose threats to limited resources. This article describes the strategic planning process for the merger between the libraries of Penn State University's Harrisburg and Schuylkill campuses. Librarians from both campuses took part in decisions regarding the new organizational structure and various procedural changes. The article examines the implications of the merger on the collections and services of the two libraries and looks at ways the libraries can work together to support the merged curriculum.
