Abstract

In this paper, we set a point of departure for the hermeneutical analysis of sport in the philosophy of sport. Such a point of departure is the overturn of the Platonism in broad internalism, which is the most widely accepted philosophical approach in the discipline. Firstly, we analyze the Platonic nature of broad internalism. Then, by drawing on Heidegger's work on Nietzsche, we explore the implications of overturning Platonism. In doing so, we identify the philosophers of sport whose work is at the ground of the inversion of Platonism in the philosophy of sport, whom we call "Dionysian philosophers of sport". To conclude, we show how Dionysian philosophers' attempt of taking broad internalism beyond itself must be regarded as the point of departure for the hermeneutical analysis of sport.
