Abstract

A 50m firn core from Dome C consisted of coarse firn characterized by large crystals with a vertical orientation near the surface, connected to nearest neighbors by relatively large necks and fine firn of higher density and consisted of smaller, more spherical crystals connected by relatively narrow necks. Load- driven densification due to a power-law creep mechanism accounts for a higher coarse-firn densification rate.-from Current Antarctic Literature
