Abstract

A subset of seven cases and seven controls from our Missouri Dioxin Study, for which 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (2,3,7,8-TCDD) was the analyte of concern, was expanded to include all of the 2,3,7,8-polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs). We found that the adipose tissues of the cases had much higher levels of 2,3,7,8-TCDD, than controls but had similar levels of the other PCDDs and PCDFs, suggesting that the abnormal 2,3,7,8-TCDD levels are due to a specific point source.
