Abstract
N3P3F5Ph (III) homopolymerizes when heated, but gem-N3P3Cl4Ph2 (IV), gem-N3P3F4Ph2 (V), non-gem-N3P3Cl3Ph3 (VI), gem-N3P3Cl2Ph4 (VII), N3P3ClPh5 (VIII), and (NPPh2)3 (IX) do not. However, compounds III, IV, V, and VI copolymerize with (NPCl2)3 (II), whereas VII, VIII, and IX inhibit the polymerization of II. The polymers were derivatized by placement of halogen with CF3CH2O-, or piperidino groups, and the properties of these thermoplastics and elastomers were examined. The mechanistic implications of the results are discussed.
