Abstract
Ethylene and propylene were polymerized via a series of Al-Al and Al-B catalyst systems to high molecular weight polymers. NMR analysis of these polymers indicates a highly linear structure, with the melting points for poly(ethylene) ranging from 138-140°C. The poly(propylene) formed from these systems was shown by 13C NMR spectroscopy to be atactic. Several pieces of experimental evidence indicate that trace metals are not responsible.
