Abstract
The synthesis of graft copolymers of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) with linear polyphosphazene side-chain grafts was discussed. A living, cationic polymerization was used to first synthesize well-defined styryl-telechelic polyphosphazenes that bear appropriate side groups. The terminal styrene unit was then copolymerized with methyl methacrylate to yield a graft copolymer. It was found the refractive indices of the copolymers were strongly influenced by the large amount of fluorine present in the grafts.
