Abstract

The bulky chromophoric groups, 1-phenylazonaphthalene-2-oxy (R′O) and p-phenylazoanilino (R′′-NH), have been bound covalently to a polyphosphazene chain by the reaction of the sodium salt of 1-phenylazo-2-naphthol or p-phenylazoaniline with poly(dichlorophosphazene). Hydrolytically stable derivatives were then prepared by replacement of the remaining chlorine by trifluoroethoxy or methylamino groups. The UV-visible spectral characteristics of the products are described.
