Abstract

Phase-pure porous hydroxyapatite (HAp) coatings are increasingly being used as orthopedic prostheses materials because of their ability to stimulate bone contact and growth. These materials are fabricated mainly by plasma spray, an ineffective process which creates gaps in the coatings. One alternative method to this process is the electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method. This approach allows phase purity which eliminates gaps in the coatings caused by differential dissolution.
