Abstract

The purpose of this review letter is to trace the history of the so-called Post Constraint (PC): from its first appearance in the early 1960s, to its rediscovery and extended interpretation starting with our oral presentation at Chiral'94, to the status quo in March 1998. Here we (i) reiterate arguments for and against the validity of the PC; (ii) discuss experimental work aimed at producing a nonreciprocal bi-isotropic (NRBI) material (e.g., following the recipe given by Tellegen); and (iii) provide a comprehensive survey of available publications on the PC.
