Abstract
Background: Meprin α is a metalloproteinase implicated in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Results: RNA-binding proteins post-transcriptionally regulate meprin α, and RNA stability decreases after induction of an inflammatory response. Conclusion: Inflammatory stimuli downregulate meprin α by inducing TTP expression and binding to the transcript. Significance: Determining how inflammation alters meprin α regulation is crucial to understanding its role in IBD.
