Abstract
Performance of metallurgical operations where gas bubbles are injected into liquid baths, e. g. , ladle degassing and desulfurization, is related to the level of bath circulation and agitation. This paper describes a method of calculating velocity fields and turbulence levels. The roles played by bubble size and volume of the two-phase gas/liquid region in determining the velocity field are examined. Applicability in preventing refractory failures is discussed. 6 refs.
