Abstract
The paper summarizes the state-of-the-art for predicting thermally induced loads in thin-walled grain storage bins. The recommendations of various authorities, covering the period from the 1960's to the present, are discussed in the light of recently measured thermally induced loads in a model bin at The Pennsylvania State University. The paper discusses the shortcomings of existing recommendations and suggests a plan for development of a rational solution for predicting thermally induced loads.
