Abstract
Measurements of horizontally and vertically polarized reflectivity factors at S-band in rainfall should provide adequate information to predict the apparent reflectivity factor at attenuating wavelengths such as C-band. A test is made of this hypothesis by comparing the predicted and measured apparent reflectivity factors at C-band. The prediction is made using near-simultaneous S-band dual polarization radar measurements and the difference between the reflectivity factors. The results demonstrate that S-band dual polarization measurements are effective predictors.
