N1 - Funding Information: In addition to exceptional contributions in innumerable research areas, Song has taught, mentored, and served with indefatigable energy and sincerity. Song has consistently supported a group of 20 undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral scholars by funds and grants from industry and government agencies at Penn State. He has advised or co-advised over 70 graduate students in PhD and MS programs, supervised over 30 undergraduate student researchers, over 30 postdoctoral scholars and over 35 visiting scholars. Examples of his service to the professional community include Chair and Treasurer of American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Petroleum Chemistry; Chair and Program Chair of ACS Fuel Chemistry Division; Program Chair and Advisory Board Chair for International Pittsburgh Coal Conference; Advisory board member for the ACS journal Energy & Fuels, Catalysis Today, Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, Chinese Journal of Catalysis, and 10 other journals in catalysis, CO 2 , energy, chemistry and engineering research; Chair or Co-chair of over 40 international symposia. He held visiting professorship or invited professorship at Imperial College London, University of Paris VI, Tsinghua University, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Tianjin University, Taiyuan University of Technology and Institute of Coal Chemistry. He has also served on the US National Coal Council, scientific advisory boards for US NSF ERC Center on catalysis at University of Kansas and US DOE Energy Frontier Research Center on catalysis at Argonne National Laboratory, international advisory board for the State Key Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Solid Surfaces at Xiamen University, State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals at Dalian University of Technology, State Key Laboratory of Coal Conversion at Institute of Coal Chemistry, and academic committee for the Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry for Energy Materials (iChEM) consisting of Xiamen University, Fudan University, the University of Science and Technology of China, and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as advisor or consultant for major energy companies such as BP, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, and Saudi Aramco.
