Abstract

We study the production of ψ mesons in ep collisions and argue that ψ's form the ideal experimental signature for directly identifying the "anomalous" gluon structure of the photon. The observation is of relevance to studies of the nucleon structure functions using HERA and to high energy γ-ray astronomy.
