Abstract

We fabricated bulk Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox (2212) bars by directional solidification and bulk (Bi,Pb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox (2223) bars by cold isostatic pressing and sintering or by sinter forging. Tc values were 92 K for the 2212 and 106-110 K for the 2223. Maximum transport Jc values at 77 K were 450 A/cm2 for the 2212, 1000 A/cm2 for the pressed and sintered 2223, and 8000 A/cm2 for the sinter-forged 2223. The 2212 bars exhibited the lowest strength and fracture toughness, and the sinter-forged 2223 the highest strength and toughness.
