N2 - For numerous diseases across the globe, nucleic acid testing remains the clinical standard. However, there is a need for these methods to be field deployable. Recent improvements in optical detection and isothermal amplification have pushed POCT devices closer to laboratory standards. However, sample preparation remains a bottleneck that has not seen improvements. Here we present an automated device using paramagnetic beads for nucleic acid extraction in under 10 minutes. Linking our device with microfluidics creates a system that is fully automated, user-friendly, ultra-portable, notably accessible, and sample adaptable.
