Abstract

We show that using a high-repetition mode-locked femtosecond laser and a high-resolution zero-dispersion pulse compressor, high-fidelity temporal waveforms can be generated. The proposed technique for ultrashort pulse shaping takes advantage of the specific comb-like structure of the spectrum of mode-locked laser utrashort pulse trains. The shaped pulses are free from space-time coupling effects and high-order spatial modes. The use of the proposed pulse shaping technique for free-space optical communications is discussed.
