N2 - The title pyrylium cation (7) coexists in water with the enedione pseudobase (12) and the anion [cf. (13)]. The kinetic and equilibrium interrelationships of these species and the corresponding 2H-pyran and oxodienol over a wide pH range have been studied and elucidated.
