Abstract

The authors developed an exercise testing system. Commercially available microcomputer hardware and software simplified the task of acquisition and online graphic display of data. Equipment from a pediatric laboratory is interfaced with with a relatively inexpensive microcomputer. The resulting automated laboratory provides efficient and adaptable apparatus for clinical and research studies in pediatric cardiopulmonary exercise testing. The configuration of the system as well as the acquisition, processing, display, and reporting of the measured or computed exercise parameters are presented.
