Abstract

One way to minimize the environmental costs of manufacturing is waste prevention, a foundation of which is the recovery of materials used to manufacture and deliver products. A material recovery system is referred to as a recoverable product environment (RPE) and includes strategies to increase product life consisting of repair, remanufacturing and finally recycling of products, while the processes in the system are described by the recoverable produce environment. A major part of the RPE is the recoverable manufacturing system that focuses on manufacturing systems design to remanufacture products.
