Abstract

These reactions are induced more strongly by IA (subregion) controlled antigens than by antigens controlled by other H 2 regions and subregions. Most marked proliferative reactions were observed when donor cells reacted against the entire H 2 complex from the host. Reactions to I region differences were weaker than anti H 2 responses but much stronger than reactions against one isolated H 2 region difference. Thus the IA subregion is very important in the proliferative phase of these graft versus host reactions. These reactions also can be induced by antigens controlled by loci H 2K and H 2D in K and D regions. The MLR corresponds to the proliferative phase of these reactions. Rapid weight loss and death within 2 weeks are caused by the injection of cells whose entire H 2 complex differs from that of the host. I and K region differences cause lethal graft versus host reactions. The CML is the in vitro counterpart of the effector phase of these reactions. MLR, CML and the nr of references may be found in the original paper.
