Abstract

In this paper, third-order and fourth-order, time-dependent solutions of the relative two-body problem are used in conjunction with the general equations of relative motion to analyze the relative motion of a chase vehicle with respect to a target vehicle at various orbital altitudes. The outcomes of this analysis are then compared to the outcomes that are derived from the Hill-Clohessy-Wiltshire equations. The results demonstrate that the third-and forth-order formulations provide a robust and comparable method of analyzing relative motion between two vehicles that is not hindered by the assumptions of linear orbit theory.
