Abstract
Ferroelectric relaxor characteristics are discussed in conjunction with the disordered arrangement of the constituent ions. Dielectric properties are characterized by giant and temperature-insensitive dielectric constants and large frequency dependence (referred to as dielectric relaxation). These properties are consistently explainable by the dynamic response of very small spindle-like domains. Superior characteristics in electrostriction and electrooptic effects are also discussed.
