N2 - Successful operations of telecommunication networks require an uninterrupted availability of critical network services. The communication between a client and a server might be interrupted since the server itself is offline or unreachable as a result of catastrophic network failures. This paper addresses the problem of server deployment in telecommunication networks to maximize the availability of critical services. A new measure is presented to assess the service availability, and an ant colony approach is proposed to find good solutions to the problem.
