Abstract
Recent research on the qualitative dynamics of rotating elastic structures is summarized. A general theory of rotational elastic dynamics has been applied to a specific prototypical structure. Viscoelastic damping is modeled along the classical lines suggested by Kelvin and Voigt, and the asymptotic steady-state behavior of this dissipative system is characterized in terms of an inhomogeneous boundary value problem.
