Abstract
The original ‘Rules of the game,' was published in this volume’s predecessor, in 2016. A tweaked version of that chapter was subsequently published in Journal of Management Inquiry in 2018, where it drew a number of appreciative compliments, but also a stinging rebuke from a number of women on Twitter, who argued that my description of the rules of the publishing game represented an overly masculine view - portraying the process as a solitary, adversarial type of competition for scarce journal space. They therefore contributed their own, more gender-neutral, set of rules for getting published.
