Abstract

The shape of SANGA₂ in Ebla sheds light on the two graphic varieties of this sign in Ur III and OB texts. Originally, there was a tendency to distinguish between SANGA₂ and LAK-175 (hurin/hirin_x), albeit not consistently, in ED and Ur III. Ebla bears witness to this situation. By OB, however, the descendants of SANGA₂ and LAK-175 had become mere graphic variants.
