Abstract
A general T-matrix is formulated to study the scalar scattering response of an impenetrable, biperiodic surface in the presence of a z-directed medium inhomogeneity, and reductions thereof are discussed. A numerical scheme for constructing potential reflection coefficients used for generating an appropriate Green's function has also been described. Numerical results presented demonstrate that the effect of the inhomogeneity cannot be ignored without inducing severe errors.
