Abstract
The microstructural characteristics of unalloyed ductile cast iron given various austempering heat treatments are characterized and correlated to impact toughness. Scanning electron microscopy was used to reveal the microstructural details of the austempering process for polished and etched specimens and partially fractured specimens as well as revealing fracture surface characteristics.
