Abstract
The seismic design of precast concrete cladding panels taking into account the effect of vertical ground acceleration was discussed. A spandrel type reinforced concrete cladding panel was the subject of a preliminary study to investigate seismic design forces. The design forces corresponding to vertical acceleration effect as obtained by recent research proposals were determined according to International Building Code 2000 (ICC 2000) and Uniform Building Code equations. The design forces were compared with what would be obtained using 2/3-factor for near-source and far-source situations.
