abstract = "This study is an effort to more reliably and accurately assess the seismic response of utility network systems during a major seismic event. Major events such as the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake and 1994 Northridge Earthquake showed the vulnerability of these systems by causing major damage to water and electricity networks. In order to assess the system performance more accurately, lifelines are topologically modeled as a system of interacting networks. The assessment tools are implemented in MAEviz - a GIS based loss assessment software developed by the Mid-America Earthquake Center (MAE Center) and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). A demonstration of the assessment tool was made by analyzing power and water networks in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul.",
