    Abstract

It has been shown previously that a mixed radix converter can be modified to perform all the essential functions of an error checker for error detection and correction in residue number system hardware architectures. Since the computations in a mixed radix converter are themselves done in residue arithmetic, error checking by means of mixed radix conversion also checks for errors that occur in the hardware of the mixed radix converter. This paper examines the potentially useful properties of this “self-checking error checker.”
