Abstract

Recent experimental observations have noted that a masonry arch bridge subjected to one crossing of an overload vehicle developed irreversible deformations, yet reverts to elastic behavior under subsequent load passes. A finite element model of the structure allowed the identification of a set of residual forces satisfying the shakedown condition for a load of similar magnitude to the load used in the experiment.
