Abstract
The contact pressure between a poppet valve and its seat is an important consideration for valve performance. The geometry of the contacting surfaces is optimized to achieve maximum uniformity in the contact stress distribution. A general contact algorithm is developed. The poppet is modeled using axisymmetric finite elements.
