Abstract
William P. Bahnfleth, PH.D., P.E., ASHRAE president, shares his views on the steps that need to be taken to secure the future of ASHRAE and that of the industry. The certificate of consolidation, the document that created ASHRAE states that the purpose of this organization is to advance the arts and sciences of heating, refrigerating, air conditioning and ventilation, and the allied arts and sciences for the benefit of the general public. The goals of the organization need to address the specific requirements of the concerned industry by using available talents and resources for the benefit of the general public, as the governing documents require the organization to do. The members need to ser goals for themselves, developing a workforce that is capable of meeting the challenges of the future. Goals of the specific industry reflect the organization's mission to serve the public good.
