Abstract

Rapid, highly efficient preparative liquid chromatographic separations of geometrical isomers of unsaturated acetates, aldehydes, and hydrocarbons were obtained with silver nitrate coated on silica gel. When benzene was used, the compounds eluted in a reasonable time and the columns could be reused since they showed no significant deterioration. Silica gel of three ranges of partical size treated with AgN03 in our laboratory produced lower operating pressures and better peak shape than commercially obtained AgN03-silica.
