Abstract
Wakefield's formula for the conversion of the percentage agreement reliability index to coefficient phi can be simplified considerably. Starting from the mathematical properties of a 2 × 2 table, an alternative and simpler formula is derived which provides a more convenient means for the conversion from one index to another. The simplified formula is proven to be mathematically equivalent to Wakefield's.
