Abstract
A simulation model of the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum was developed for field drying alfalfa. The model, ALFDRY, simulates the heat and moisture status of the alfalfa plant and the air space in the swath according to the principles of heat and mass transfer. Good agreement was found between simulated and measured drying data for a wide range of conditions in East Lansing, MI, and Fresno, CA.
