title = "Simulation of tomographic rainfield reconstruction using multiparameter radiowave propagation observables",
abstract = "Several practical problems of implementing tomographic reconstruction of rainfields using Ka-band attenuation measurements have been identified. The primary difficulties include 1) excessive attenuation at heavy rainfall which limits potential path lengths and requires large receiver dynamic range, and 2) potential measurement interference at low rain intensities due to comparable levels of absorption from both water vapor and oxygen. As an alternative, differential phase shift at X-band is proposed as one of several possible multiparameter observables. Such measurements would allow longer path measurements (or lower receiver dynamic range), while preserving a nearly linear power-law relationship between the observable and rainfall rate. An initial simulation of X-band measurements produced a rainfield reconstruction comparable to that of a similar Ka-band attenuation simulation given by Giuli et al.",
