Abstract
Time accurate simulation of a high speed impinging jet configuration was performed using both the RANS-based Wind-US production flow solver and the CHOPA computational aeroacoustics solver. Qualitatively, the Wind-US solution predicted many of the major features observed experimentally for this flow. Though direct comparison with experiment was not possible, the predicted peak sound pressure level and frequency appears reasonable in light of the published observations. The observed helical character of the jet plume was also predicted, at least in part. Our initial efforts to model this flow with the CHOPA solver, while not complete, are beginning to produce reasonable-looking results, though a full assessment is not possible until the simulation is complete.
