Simultaneous CO-carbonization of coal and decant oil: The effect of varying process parameters

Abstract

Product yields derived for the co-coking under varying process conditions are shown. With an increase in coke drum pressure, there is an increase in coke yield. The corresponding increase in liquid yield is an indication that there was an enhancement of cracking reactions of the higher molecular weight species. Changing the experimental parameters can have a marked effect on the quality and yield of the products produced in the co-coking of coal and decant oil. Increasing the quantity of coal in the feed mix does not seem to have a detrimental effect. Lowering the water feed rate results in a coke product of poor quality if it was to be used as a value-added carbon. The high degree of isotropic carbon reduces the quality of the coke.
