Abstract
In the current era of minimally invasive surgery, the application of advanced robotic surgical techniques for kidney transplantation is emerging. The adoption of single-port (SP) robotic surgery in the urology community for various upper tract and pelvic surgeries offers the promise of less postoperative morbidity and pain, shorter hospital stay, and quicker recovery. The use of SP robotic surgery for kidney transplantation or autotransplantation is perhaps the most promising and complex merge of advanced robotic technology with the precise surgical technique of transplantation. In this chapter, we describe our initial experience with SP robotic transplantation and autotransplantation. After the description of the surgical technique, the outcomes of the initial series with this technique will be presented. Challenges, limitations, and future directions that may be helpful in the widespread application of this procedure will also be discussed.
