Smoothest bearings: interlayer sliding in multiwalled carbon nanotubes

A study is carried out to demonstrate that the tightly constrained geometry of a multiwalled nanotube can produce an extremely smooth solid-solid interface. As samples, three representative defect-free two-walled carbon nanotubes are considered.
