Abstract

Sociogenomics is the study of social life at the molecular level. This field seeks to characterize the molecular mechanisms that regulate both the production and evolution of social behavior, including the molecular pathways that are influenced by social information, and thereby adjust the behavior of organisms to their social context. This article outlines general issues, mechanistic and evolutionary, associated with sociogenomics, followed by brief accounts of select examples. The article ends by outlining areas of future research.
