Abstract

A study of the thermal segregation of graphite from metal carbides was initiated. It was found that nanotubes are generated when other metals such as Fe, Co, Ni and Y are present, but not in their absence. Further evidence was obtained indicating that 1000-1100°C constitutes the empirical optimum for nanotube production.
