Abstract

The accuracy of the standardless threshold sensitivity selection and flaw sizing principally depend on the correctly established relationship between the peak amplitude of the reflected pulse and defect characteristics. The main concern of this study is to determine the adequacy of the theoretical distance-gain-size (DGS) technique in the near and transient zones for various transducers. Also, a compensation method for the established relationship between peak amplitude and defect characteristics has been investigated. Detailed procedures of this compensation method and related computer algorithms are explained.
