N2 - An experimental potato-stone sorting machine was modified to achieve greater accuracy at higher operating speed in continuous flow operation. The modified machine was extensively tested using a wide range of shapes and sizes of potatoes, and clods. Three potato-to-stone ratios of 9:1, 7:3, and 5:5 were selected for testing to represent the extremes in actual field conditions. The effect of other factors, such as stone roundness, was also considered in determining the sorting accuracy of the machine at various operating speeds. The capability of the machine to detect and separate hard clods of soil was also tested. Tests were also conducted to determine the extent of potato damage.
