Abstract

Neural system characterizes information in external stimulations by spatiotemporal coding. In order to reveal the underlying mechanisms about the conduction and function of acupuncture, we designed an experiment that different acupuncture manipulations are taken at 'zusanli' point, and the induced electrical signals in spinal dorsal nerve root are detected and recorded. Wavelet transform was used to extract features of each spike shapes, and the spike time series of single units involved in Spatiotemporal coding were obtained by using sorting algorithm. Then we characterized spatiotemporal coding features of information in different acupuncture manipulations. Finally, we proved that the information contained in different acupuncture manipulations are obviously different.
